Walk to Work week
Registrations for this year's event are now open, so visit the Walk to Work Week online tool to register yourself and your workplace to take part. http://www.walkingworks.org.uk/walk-to-work-week
All you need to do is create your profile online now, and organisers Living Streets will be in touch to let you know when you can have a full preview of what's going to be available, including calorie and mile calculators, prize draws, links to your Twitter account, and more!
The theme for this year's event is 'Get fit without the hassle. Try walking to, from or during work.' They have set 5 challenges for employees:
1.Try walking all or part of the way to work
2.Try walking all or part of the way home from work
3.Hold a walking meeting
4.Walk all or part of the way to a meeting
5.Take a walk during your lunch break
An online tool will enable you, as a workplace organiser, to track the impact of the Week, and it will allow individual employees to track their own progress. Prizes will be available both to partcipating employees and workplaces. Here are some of the benefits available for a workplace that is using the microsite to participate:
•Find out the total calories burned, carbon saved and distance walked by your workplace as a whole.
•See which workplaces are participating in your local area and how you compare against them.
•See how the nation does as a whole and see the top three performing workplaces and local authority areas.
•See your results brought to life with special graphics such as cupcakes, lightbubs and mapped journeys.
•Your employees will be able to track how they do throughout the week and how they compare against their colleagues.
•We'll give you access to a final report in May, displaying the final results from your workplace.
You will be able to register your workplace and allow your colleagues to register and have a look around the site from the beginning of April.
There are a number of free resources to help you promote the Week and get your colleagues involved both leading up to and during the event. These include things like campaign images, email templates, press release templates, information on walking, case studies and more.
