Understanding Green Taxation

I've been reading about the Spending Review and how the government made changes to the CRC scheme and made it a Carbon Tax. What does that mean in practical terms for me as a business, and what has happened to the league tables that they were planning to have? Can I gain any business advantage from this - or is this just another tax I must pay?
